The greatest scientific discovery of all time is the set of methods and practices used to determine what counts as a discovery. I’m not saying this is the whole truth–there are many serious difficulties facing educators–but I sense a mostly unspoken chain of reasoning that goes like this: The problem with higher education is K-12 education. The problem with K-12 education is parenting. The problem with parenting is popular culture, and the problem with popular culture is that it’s not sufficiently educated. The world since the Industrial Revolution is like a student who has been in college for 225 years and has yet to declare a major. |
