Check out my latest video project, which was a finalist in the Project Reason 2011 Video Contest: The greatest scientific discovery of all time is the set of methods and practices used to determine what counts as a discovery. Come see me speak March 25-27 at the 2011 Northwest Regional Freethought Conference in Portland! I’ll be presenting twice: a keynote entitled “Living Without a Soul, Dying Without a God,” and then a dual-interview + audience Q&A with the inimitable P.Z. Myers, of Pharyngula fame. I suspect that for pseudoscientists, the generation of multiple ideas and theories to explain a set of data means work. For scientists, it means play. The more carefree and unselfconscious ease you can bring to the process of inquiry, the more likely you are to arrive at the truth. The tragedy isn’t that people don’t think. It’s that they do think; they’re just not very good at it. |
